Okay, so everyone knows our “deal,” our motto, our tagline is “Love Shelbyville.” And, if you’ve spent any time at all around Christ Community Church (and specifically outside of our church through our service projects), we are striving to be a people of our word. We really do love on this community in some cool ways—from helping neighbors with yard work to odd jobs at Operation Care to helping out at functions at Southside Elementary, etc. I love that about our church!! We have a collective heart for this place we call home and we look for opportunities to serve our neighbors. In keeping with this sort of “theme” of CCC, I got to thinking about some less conventional but certainly just as important ways we can love on our town. In just chatting with a couple of moms from church, here are some of the ideas we came up with over coffee… Eat locally—We have several cool breakfast and lunch spots in town. Talk with your servers. Meet the owners. Ask them their stories. “LOVE” them by getting to know them and by investing in their efforts to bring their dreams to our streets. Shop locally—Looking for gifts, unique décor for your house, appliances or even the latest fashions? Check out our hometown options first and show the love. Just do things locally— Okay, I’ll be the first to admit it. I used to drive to Louisville for everything, assuming our small town had little to offer in the way of fun. But my eyes are shifting and some amazing things are coming into focus. Shelbyville has…..Incredible art studios, lots of opportunities to hear music from local talent (live local music—how cool is that?), great fun at 6th Street Live and Street Party nights on Main Street, an awesome park system & Family Activity Center, a uniquely rad skate park, and Community Theatre, etc. Love, Live, and Act Local – Love Shelbyville! What ideas do you have?
