What better way to keep our focus on Jesus this season then to have a birthday party for him? Check out this post by Melinda Hardin:
Oh what fun it is to…..have a BIRTHDAY PARTY FOR JESUS!!! Last Friday we celebrated Jesus’ Birthday with our play group! It was such a fun way to introduce the TRUE MEANING of Christmas to our kiddos. We helped them make birthday cards for Jesus while talking with them about His birth….this, of course, in the midst of keeping them from tackling the Christmas tree and reminding them to share their cheerios. :–) We also had birthday cupcakes, sang “Happy Birthday” and then had each little one blow out a candle for Jesus. I can see this idea growing over the coming years–complete with them acting out a skit of the manger scene. The celebration wasn’t a formal one but that’s really what made it so wonderful. It was just some moms and their kids taking the time to worship fully during our Friday morning.
I told my daughter Celia that–just like we had a friend and a family party for her birthday, we were going to do that for Jesus, too. So, we are having birthday cake on Christmas morning, too, with our family. In fact, we’re even wearing birthday hats and making a banner for the big day!! As a side note, we were listening to this cool cd with Advent songs on it. She asked, “What is that music, mommy?” I told her that it was a whole cd with birthday songs for Jesus. We have one song for us but, since He’s God’s son, there are a lot of songs for Him!
Merry Christmas and Happy Birthday Jesus!!
