Shame is a reality. It can be good and it can be bad. It can most certainly steal our joy.
Kenny gave us some really helpful language when he differentiated shame by whether it was the guide in our lives or a gauge that told us to return to the family we've been adopted into.
Shame as a guide often causes us to view ourselves and others poorly, missing the image of God, not seeing the love he has for us or being grateful for the gifts we receive as his adopted children.
Shame as a gauge, on the other hand, becomes a warning to return to the Father, again and again and again.
