To be or not to be in Groups..

Get into a group!

That is what we encourage here at CCC, to be in community with other believers yet as people we have concerns, expectations, schedules, lives and even the question WHY?

Why is a good question because whether you find yourself vocalizing it when someone asks you if you are connected to a group or internalizing because you just don't understand why it is so important.

Although part of my role at Christ Community is to beat the drum and encourage others to be in community groups or Discipleship groups the ever looming question why can be hard to answer. It isn't because I lack statistics or am void of sound reasoning for the benefits of being connected with other believers but more so it stems from the lack of understanding the why but in my studies this week in Hebrews I was reminded of the why.

Hebrews 10:23-25 "23 Let us hold on to the confession of our hope without wavering, since he who promised is faithful. 24 And let us consider one another in order to provoke love and good works, 25 not neglecting to gather together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging each other, and all the more as you see the day approaching."

Verse 23 reminds us of the hope we have IN Christ and that we must hold on to that confession, but when the world doesn't agree and pushes back on that hope or perhaps life throws a curve ball and our confidence in that hope begins to waiver, we must have a place, or more accurately, a foundation in which we may stand firmly.

Verse 24- ...and let us CONSIDER one another in order to provoke love and good works this verse urges even commands proximity with other believers so that we can provoke, encourage, keep accountable one another in the love and good works all founded upon that same hope mentioned in verse 23. That can't happen alone or disconnected from the church.

Verse 25- not neglecting to gather together.... There isn't much wiggle room here from the author of Hebrews about whether or not we should gather but that gathering must be a habit or t we can loose sight of that hope we have in Christ.

So Why gather? Why Belong to a group? Discipleship.

It's a call, a command, that we are in the habit of encouraging one another. Growing with one another and remaining steadfast connected to the hope we have confessed in Christ.
