Who Are You? —Katie Gaither

It is almost August, and there is so much to look forward to this month! If you are anything like me, there have been times over the past few months where the world has just seemed so "loud." How can we quiet our thoughts? How can the Lord soften our spirit? I want to encourage you this month to get into the Word. So often, our circumstances are so loud and intimidating that even simple choices/decisions seem overwhelming; we lose sight of who we are in Christ and become swept up in the heaviness of what is happening around us.

Recently, I was feeling this way. I was spending time with God and was so overwhelmed, I really did not know where to even start. So, I went back to the basics. I seemed to have forgotten who I was in Christ. Sometimes, just simple time in His word can breathe new life and offer peace and stillness to our thoughts and lives.

I want to challenge you to do this in August (even better, have everyone in your family do this together!). Open your Bibles to Ephesians 1. Read the short chapter, and write down every description of who we are in Christ based on this Scripture. Re-centering your minds and thoughts on who we are in Christ seems to make the world and its worries fade away. Reminding ourselves who we are in Christ reminds us of how He sees us, cares for us, and gives us purpose.

Bonus: Do the above activity and then turn to Psalm 23 and do the same thing. This time, take note of who God says He is. Remind yourself this month, who you are in Christ and who He is. Ask God to help you believe these truths and to remind you of them!

"Truly He is my rock and my salvation;

He is my fortress, I will not be shaken."

—Psalm 62:6
