What a great quote John Weinold shared that Daniel shared with a guy they were ministering to in Eastern Kentucky alongside our partners at GAP! I was so encouraged to hear John tell his story of wrestling with surrending to saying yes. It was also such a great reminder to me of how many times we show up to serve thinking we are or need to be the hero when really our mindset should be that of earning the right to tell people who our hero is.
This was one of those sneaky lines in this week's sermon passage that I noticed early on, but the gravity of it grew and grew as I studied and prepared. When it hit me late in the process that it was 5 words of understanding, it kind of blew my mind and opened my heart to what God desires in our time together. He wants to be with us, among us, and tangibly present to those seeking God. It's really cool to think God wants that! And it makes me want that, too. Let's keep being a body that builds one another up, CCC. Let's invite God's presence.
God has really been using this verse in my personal life the last several weeks and it was a passage our members read together at the covenant meeting yesterday afternoon. I found myself grateful, again, for this body of believers that my family and I get to be a part of. Even more, I'm thankful for our collective trust in God to faithfully lead us by His Spirit and His Word. Covenant Members, if you weren't able to make it, keep an eye on your inbox for a short recap.
We've got some opportunities this week to support missions in the flow of our everyday lives!
Sherry Allen is headed on a medical mission to Uganda in June and needs some medical supplies donated. Check out the list and throw some of those in your shopping cart this week and drop them by the Connect Desk.
Also, our Chile team is hosting 2 fundraisers on Wednesday! You can grab Sweet G's Ice Cream in the Governor's Square parking lot from 12-8pm and/or grab dinner from Pepper's between 5-9pm!
We always look forward to celebrating and praying with families and new children on Mother's Day! If your family wants to be a part of this, check out all the details HERE.
I got to hang around and listen to Billy Doolittle teach our students at EDGE last night from Proverbs 3:5-6. As he explained what it meant to "lean not on your own understanding" he took it back to the cultural phenomenon of his day: Planking. (Think 6-7 back in the day!)
People who "planked" would lay fully stretched out in random places snapping a photo to share online. He talked about how planking forced you to put your entire body weight onto an object. You had to trust that object to hold your entire being.
He then talked about our need to put every bit of trust we have, our whole weight of trusting, in Jesus.
Planking on Jesus.
Let's do that, church.
He'll do immeasurably more than we could imagine in us and through us as he sends us.. not to be heroes, but to tell others about ours.
