Tim Keller on Gender Roles

Listen to Tim Keller's sermon on 1 Corinthians 11 titled "Gender Roles." I read more and listened more preparing last week's sermon than I remember doing in some time. Tough passages encourage me to humbly lean in. Even though I preached a little longer than usual, there was plenty that didn't make the cut this week!

Oh, how we need Jesus.. the WORD became flesh. I hope listening into this sermon would be an encouragement to you to not only submit to God's Word, but also to keep asking the Spirit to reveal truth to you again and again.

Being drawn into Prayer

I noticed over the last 24 hours God gently drawing me to lean into prayer, and he's done it in some really cool ways!

First, it was hearing how our pastor/elder team had prayed specifically Sunday morning that people would be called to take next steps in missions. Of course it was also our next step, but it's HOW God answered that was awesome! One person texting me where they sensed God calling them to go. Another stopping me after the Gathering to ask if we would be her sending church for a longer assignment with the IMB. Multiple people who said yes to GAP and Chile as Daniel invited us to do. Prayer works!

Then there was leaning into the study for our Community Group that talked about moving to greater depth in prayer.. from asking, to seeking, to knocking. Yeah, I want that desperation!

And in all that, the gentle reminders of the Spirit to keep praying for the people of Christ Community by name. Sweet moments with the Lord!

Keep drawing me into prayer Lord!

A couple of action points..

Our pastor/elders pray every Sunday morning. If we can ever be praying something with you, you can find their numbers on the back of our bulletin or contact blake@loveshelbyville.com.

If you sense the Lord drawing you into prayer, ask someone to do how you can pray for them and just jump in!

Discerning God in the Details

I was so impressed as I listened to Kalie share about the repeated process of being aware of God's presence and then discerning how to join Him in those moments! Obediently moving, then sitting still, then moving.. keeping in step with the Spirit and watching Jesus work in her life and the lives of others! Awesome!

Later in the day, it brought me back to something a mentor had impressed on me that's worth sharing.

When I'm seeking guidance over a life decision or looking for direction, there's 2 really important questions that make it easier to discern God in the details:

1) Am I prayed up?

2) Am I read up?

In other words, am I actively having conversations with God? Whether he gives me a direct answer to my specific question through his Word or not, being in active conversation with God prepares me to move forward with confidence when it's time. It's staying ready to hear from God.

Kalie, thanks for modeling and sharing that with us!

You Reign Above it All

I like to sing. I'm pretty passionate about it actually. And every once in a while, I'll stop just to listen.

When we sang that last chorus yesterday (on what had already been a long morning thanks to me!) I found myself pausing to listen to our voices ringing out, "YOU REIGN ABOVE IT ALL."

Just for a second, think about the impact of a room of people declaring with honest hearts that Jesus reigns above it all....

Comfort rushes in

Peace rushes in

Security rushes in

Hope rushes in.

Thank you Jesus. You reign above it all.
