Over 2 years ago here at Christ Community, we began a journey through Luke. In chunks, we have worked through it all from the loose context that Luke was writing so that Theophilus might “know with certainty” the story of Jesus.
After beginning his public ministry, Jesus invested in his disciples, healed, and taught in parables; all while leaving people curious about who he truly was. As we enter this final stretch of Luke's gospel, Jesus' identity is coming into focus.
His heart is revealed as he weeps and prays and teaches about the future of Jerusalem.
He reveals the hearts of others as he responds to challengers.
He endures through betrayal, an unfair trial, and the crucifixion.
In the concluding words of the watching centurion, surely this is the Son of God.
We want to see him more clearly.
For Christ Community, as we look towards a fall in which we will celebrate 15 years of joining Jesus in going out to make disciples, it’s important that who Jesus is comes into focus. A summer of pressing into his identity and character at the climax of his story sets us up to depend on him fully as we look to a future of seeking the city that is to come.
This summer, let’s let Jesus be coming into focus.
