A couple of months ago, we mapped out our Christmas sermon series.
Isaiah 9:1-7 was selected for December 14; a sermon on God sending joy as we walk in the darkness.
I preached that yesterday. And while I rarely find myself continuing to reflect on my own sermon on Monday, that's precisely what I'm doing this week.
God's words to Isaiah keep ringing in my ears:
Isaiah 8:20 (CSB)
20Go to God’s instruction and testimony! If they do not speak according to this word, there will be no dawn for them.
And he was saying this to people who were walking in the darkness. So let's go to God's instruction..
When people are walking in the darkness, they're almost always reaching out to find their barrings and seek guidance towards the light.
That's why Isaiah 9:6 gives us joy:
6For a child will be born for us, a son will be given to us, and the government will be on his shoulders. He will be named Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace.
John goes on..
John 1:4–5 (CSB)
4In him was life, and that life was the light of men.
5That light shines in the darkness, and yet the darkness did not overcome it.
Jesus knows the way. He's a light on the path. Darkness did not overcome him.
So..
Call on him as your Wonderful Counselor this week.
Call on him as your Mighty God this week.
Call on him as your Eternal Father this week.
Call on him as your Prince of Peace this week.
Jesus, shine in the darkness.
