Pause and Pray

Go to the Lord with every thought and every feeling, discomfort, anger, confusion, pain, sorrow. He hears you. He cares for you. You don’t have to clean up your prayers; you just have to bring them.

  • “Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.” (1 Peter 5:7)
  • “The righteous cry out, and the Lord hears them; he delivers them from all their troubles. The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” (Psalm 34:17-18)

Pause and Ponder

Any time tragedy strikes, there’s pressure to have something to say, even if it isn’t the right thing. Words poured out from unchecked feelings or opinions rarely help. Some of the best things you can do is sit with the Lord, let Him shape your thoughts, and wait for the right time to speak. You don’t always have to have the answer.

  • “Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry.” (James 1:19)
  • “The one who has knowledge uses words with restraint… Even fools are thought wise if they keep silent, and discerning if they hold their tongues.” (Proverbs 17:27-28)

Pause and Praise

This week is not, and will not be, the last time tragedy, unrest, political upset, loss of life, disaster, or injustice shakes the world. But as we’ve leaned into the gospel story each week, one thing remains the same: Jesus. The person of Jesus. The perfection of Jesus. The plan of Jesus.

No leader, no party, no movement outside of Christ and His church will give your soul the rest it longs for. Even as believers, this place is not our home. But until we are home, we are called to usher in the Kingdom, to live for Christ, and to love as He loved us.

  • “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.” (Hebrews 13:8)
  • “But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ.” (Philippians 3:20)
  • “There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called to one hope when you were called; one Lord, one faith, one baptism; one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all.” (Ephesians 4:4-6)

So Pause, and…Pray - because He hears. Ponder - before you speak. Praise - because Jesus remains the way, the truth and the life.
