'Tis the Season.. for things to get crazy. We're feeling it a bit at the Lawyers and as I reflected this morning on our gathering.. and time with people this weekend.. and watched snow flakes come down.. an alliterated list came to mind.

Slowing Down

You will seek me and find me when you search for me with all your heart. (Jeremiah 29:13)

I lived life rushed yesterday. Katelyn is a good metronome for me, and one of those moments she checked me was literally as Kenny was announcing a retreat for EDGE students to help them learn how to unplug and slow down and rest in Christ.

While I have a lot to learn about slowing down, I have learned that slowing down isn't always about doing less. It's many times about being unhurried and present where you are.

That leads me to the second "S" word..

Stillness

The Lord will fight for you, and you must be quiet. (Exodus 14:14)

I'm thankful for Josiah Downey for so many reasons - he's an incredible leader who loves Jesus! His testimony of pressing back into prayer - of being still before the Lord - was so helpful. Having used it myself, I can't recommend the Pause App highly enough! It's been helpful in my walk as well.

Learning to be still and pray is often a hallmark of those seasons where the Lord is calling us to grow.

Simplicity

But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be provided for you. (Matthew 6:33)

There were several things that reminded me of the need for a simplicity this weekend; conversations with friends, experiences with my family, Josiah's retelling of the moment that he and Melissa prayed together.. The simple truth is that God wants to provide us with everything we need. And he often does that through simple connections with other people.

For all the programming and planning we can do, keeping a focus on the simplicity of seeking God's kingdom first is something I needed to be reminded of as we enter.. "The Season."

Snow

For just as rain and snow fall from heaven and do not return there without saturating the earth and making it germinate and sprout, and providing seed to sow and food to eat, so my word that comes from my mouth will not return to me empty, but it will accomplish what I please and will prosper in what I send it to do. (Isaiah 55:10-11)

As tiny snowflakes fall, it brought to mind a passage that had been passed on to me recently. As much as I dislike snow and cold, I am reminded of God's faithfulness to grow us through his Word. So find a way to be in it this week.. even if it's small.

Read the verse of the day.

Memorize a verse.

Read through a section of 1 Corinthians with us.

Just get to the word! And let God's faithfulness work it through you..
